ラ・ロシェルにてパフォーマンス／Performance at La Rochelle
２月１０日、フレンチレストラン ラ・ロシェルにてパフォーマンスを行いました。
パフォーマンスは２０分ですが、準備に３時間、撤収に２時間かかります。
そんなわけで、当日は朝の５時起きでした。
家を出ると、明け方の空にはまだ十六夜の月が。
西には月が沈み、東には日が昇りかけていました。
I did performance on February 10th at La Rochelle. I need 3 hours for preparation of my performance that lasts only 20 minutes. So I left my house at dawn. I saw moon sinking to the west and sun rising to the east in the morning sky. Then I decided to choose two caracters, "moon" and "sun" , for my performance.

チャリティー展「絆」はじまる／Charity Exhibition in Tokyo has opened
和紙に書かれた名前にちなんだ漢字４６０点。
460 characters related to names of Japanese are arranged on the wall.
作品が引き取られると、赤い『絆』のカードに変わる。
The red card “ bonds ” are replaced when the work is sold.
３月１１日のその日、私はミラノから成田に帰国しました。自宅に着いて、やれやれとトランクを開けたそのとき、立ち上がれないほどの揺れに襲われました。巨大地震のニュースはすぐに世界を駆け巡り、私のところにも海外の友人達から次々と安否を問うメールが届きました。メッセージには「日本のために何か出来ることはないか」というあたたかい言葉。私は国を超えた絆を感じました。
そして５月、私は再びイタリアへもどり、ミラノでチャリティー展をおこないました。展示作品はすべて「生」の一字。「生」の筆文字と新聞写真を合わせ、被災地で生きる人々の真摯な姿を表しました。僅かひと月足らずで制作した全３２点の「生」は、そのほとんどが被災地への義援金となりました。「日本のために・・・」と言って快く作品を求めてくれた友人たちに心から感謝しています。
見知らぬ相手同士でも気さくに挨拶を交わして世間話を楽しむ国、それがイタリア。そんな国から日本に帰ると、しばらくの間気になって仕方がないことがあります。電車に乗っても、街を歩いても携帯電話から眼を離そうとしない人たちのことです。まるで周りは眼に入らないかのように。まるで、周りを無視するかのように。「袖すり合うも多生の縁」は既に遠い昔の話になってしまいました。
でも大震災を経験した後、少しだけ私たちの連帯感が強くなったような気がします。「地震の時どこにいた？ 何をしていた？ どうやって家に帰った？」 しばらくの間、これがだれしも共通の話題となりました。「自分にとって大切な人はだれか、いざ何かあった時真っ先にだれのことを思うか。」 そんな自問を皆がするようになりました。やがて「絆」という言葉がメディアでも巷でも次第に語られはじめました。「勝ち組・負け組」「自己責任」「無縁社会」「孤独死」・・・・。そんなすさんだ言葉たちの中にあって、「絆」という文字が人々の心に一筋の光を投げているように思えました。
昨年、ミラノで「生」を展示したチャリティー展から９ヶ月が経ち、このたび東京でチャリティー展「絆」を開催することになりました。「絆」展では名前にちなんだ漢字４００字以上を和紙に書きしるしました。壁に貼られた漢字の海のなかから、あなたにとって大切な人の一字をさがしてみてください。その人の名前を見つけたとき、あなたの心にぽっとあたたかな「絆」の灯がともることを願っています。
I came back to Japan on March 11th 2011. The huge earthquake had occurred just when I arrived at my home. The news of the earthquake spread quickly throughout the world. Within hours, I received a tremendous number of messages from abroad worrying about my safety.
After confirming our personal safety, each message concluded " Is there anything I can do for Japan? ". At that time I felt the bonds between friends beyond the border.
In May I came back to Milan and held a charity exhibition. I draw Japanese character “ Live ” on canvas on which a photo of disaster is arranged. 32 pieces of works were almost sold out for donation. I appreciate a lot for courtesy of my friends who donated for Japan.
In Italy people greet friendly in the street even if they do not know each other. When I came back to Japan from Italy, I was worried about Japanese passengers who are too much concentrating on their cellular phone. It seems for me they ignore others around them.
But after the disaster I feel a sense of solidarity among us is improving little by little. “ Where were you at the moment of the earthquake? How did you come back to your home? ” This conversation became very common among us for a while. And we began to ask to ourselves who is the most important for us. Who we will keep in our mind in the serious disaster? Then the Japanese word “ KIZUNA (bonds) ” has become very popular and common in our society.
Nine months have passed since my charity exhibition in Milan. Then the second has opened on February 4th in Tokyo. The theme of this exhibition is “ bonds ”. In the venue I arranged nearly 500 pieces of character written on Japanese traditional paper. All of these characters are related to names of Japanese. Please look for the character that represents the name of your important person. I hope you could tighten the ties when you happen to find the character on the wall.

We Japanese have suffered the severe trial last year. The character that represents the year 2011 was “ Bond“. Bonds of family, friends, Japanese and people in the world. We recognized the importance of relationship between us through the unprecedented disaster. More than 400 characters for name are shown in the venue. Please look for the character that represents the most important person for you. I hope this exhibition would be an occasion for tightening and extending our bonds.

でも、近所のマーケットはいつもどおりの活気です。
昨夜は友人の展覧会に行く道すがらドゥオーモ広場を通りました。
クリスマスプレゼントを買い求める人たちが広場を行き交います。
１２月に入って、恒例の電飾も街を飾りはじめました。
１２月１０日に日本に帰ります。
I recently get e-mail from my friends who are concerned about the economic crisis in Italy. But the nearby market is crowded as usual. I stopped by Duomo on the way to see an exhibition of my friend last night. Lots of people flocked to the downtown to look for Christmas presents. The plaza was brightly illuminated as always in every December. As I see it, there are no signs of a downfall in the economy. I come back to Japan on December 10th.

『アクションの軌跡』／“The tracks of the action”
１４日に『アクションの軌跡』というワークショップを行いました。参加者はベルガモから来た高校生２７人です。
まずは基礎レッスンとして、床敷きの紙に筆と墨で線を書く練習です。直線はより長く真っ直ぐに、曲線はより大きくまるく書きます。指や手首は使わずに固定して、筆を常に垂直に保持。そして腰を深く落とし、左右の重心移動で線を引きます。でも、参加者の多くは腰をただ曲げただけで書いています。腰を落としてゆっくりと筆を運ぶという動作はとても難しそうです。
指導中に「腰」という言葉をよく使うのですが、日本語の「腰」にぴたりと当てはまる外国語が見当りません。英語なら ” back “ 、イタリア語なら “ schiena ” でしょう。
でもこれでは腰を含めた背中全体を指してしまいます。日本人が「腰」という身体の部位に重きを置いていることに気づきました。
I held a laboratory “The tracks of the action” on November 14th. The first laboratory is for high school students from Bergamo. The basic lesson is to draw lines on paper on the floor. Line should be as long and strait as possible. It is important to keep a holder vertically, fixing fingers and wrist, lowering one’s center of gravity with one’s knees bent and apart.
But many of them are just only stooping down or bending the back. I noticed it is very difficult for them to move slowly keeping the low posture. I also had difficulty to translate “Koshi” exactly. There is a word “the back” in English and “schiena” in Italian, but they are not exact to point out lower part of the back. I realized again how we Japanese regard “Koshi” as an important part of our body.
後半は作品制作。床敷きの紙の上にアクションの軌跡を残します。水を得た魚のように勢いよく筆を走らせる参加者たち。彼らは墨の濃淡、線の太細、筆の遅速など、変化をつけることに意を払いました。
The second half is for the creation. They are trying to leave the traces of their action on paper. They paid attention to make difference in lines, light and shade, thick and thin, intense and calm.
続いて大人の部。正座したまま、しばし考え込む参加者。
Then this is anther laboratory for adults. One participant is in deep deliberation.

このパフォーマンスの主役は子どもたち。家族が観客になり、これを見まもります。
はじめに、パーカッショニスト Filippo Monicoと私のコラボレーション。
There was a performance titled “Small Wonders” on November 13th.
In this performance children play on the stage and their families watch them as spectators.
The beginning is collaboration between Filippo Monico ( percussion ) and me.
続いてダンサー、Silvia Urbani と Cristina Negro が登場。
Two dancers, Silvia Urbani and Cristina Negro join in the performance.
子どもをステージに呼び入れて、後半のはじまりです。
After we invite children into the stage the second half has begun.
楽器に集まり、一緒に踊り、そして筆を振るう子どもたち。

１３日に『漢字で遊ぼう』というワークショップを開催しました。
対象は６歳から１０歳までの子どもたち。
Laboratory of Japanese calligraphy for children from 6 to 10 years old was held on November 13th.
最初にいくつかの漢字を紹介した後、墨を使って思い思いに筆をふるいます。
漢字もさることながら、墨がじわじわと紙へとにじんでいく感覚は初体験です。
After the introduction they began to dip a brush in the ink and write ideograms. It is their first experience not only to write Japanese characters but also to see ink spreads gradually on paper.
画面の中にびっしりと書き込む子どもが多いのに気がつきました。
この子も「月」と「日」で画面をいっぱいに。ついでに星も。
I have found they prefer to fill a space with a lot of characters.
He filled a space with character for Moon and Sun.
この子は漢字好き。自分が知っている漢字をいきなり書き出しました。
それでも足りずに筆の軸に書いてある文字を見ながら模写を始めました。
He has some knowledge of Japanese characters. Then he began to write another, copying characters written on the holder of a brush.
月 日 星 木 水。しっかり画面構成をしています。

この後観客を前に、子どものパフォーマンス『子どもたちのワンダーランド』がはじまりました。

Hiroyuki Nakajima – calligrafo e artista visivo, nei suoi lavori si occupa di pittura astratta. Si esibisce in performance improvvisate, influenzate dalla pratica del Tai Chi per mostrare l’atto e il segno.

今回の日本ツアーは、ミシェル ドネダさん（ソプラノサックス）、齋藤徹さん（コントラバス）を加えたトリオを中心に開催されています。

我々がよく耳にする音楽は、旋律と和音で構成されています。でも彼らの即興演奏では、音色が重要な意味を持っていることに気づきます。一般に西洋音楽における旋律や和音は、音相互の関係性を問題にします。一方、日本の伝統音楽では音そのものの質、つまり音色を重視します。そして音色の複雑な表現力を追求していくと、音は倍音を含んで雑音へと向かっていくことになります。
そして雑音の響きは、その場その時の環境に大きく左右されます。
彼らの演奏にはリズムがありません。「間」があるのです。リズムも「間」もふたつの音と音の間隔にかかわる問題ですが、そこには大きな違いがあります。リズムにおいては音と音の時間距離は一定で、等間隔を守ればこと足ります。しかし「間」の場合、間隔は絶えず変化します。直前の音のあと、次の音をいつ鳴らすかという瞬時の判断が演奏の効果に大きく左右します。
音色にしろ「間」にしろ、即興演奏でこそ本来の魅力が発揮されます。
ぜひライブに足を運んで、彼らの音色と「間」を感じ取ってみてください。
Le Quan Ninh ( percussions ) has come to Japan from France to hold a concert. I collaborated with him in performance in Royaumont in Paris this spring.
He is holding the tour now in Japan with Michel Doneda ( soprano sax ) and Tetsu Saito ( contrabass ).
Generally speaking, music is consisted of melody and chord. But in their concert, a tone itself seems more important for their musical performance. In melody and chord in Western music, relation between a note and another note is an important issue. On the other hand, a tone itself, quality of sound, means a lot in Japanese traditional music. In their concert, I enjoyed a tone that is harmonic overtone, noise and vibration.
There are not rhythm but “ ma ” in their music. Both rhythm and “ ma ” is a matter related to distance between a note and another note, but not the same. In case of “ ma ”, when should a player make a note after the previous one makes a special implication in his music.
I am sure you can appreciate both “tone” and “ ma ” in their concert.
